motiontag's technology is a strong foundation for long-term market research

For several years, motiontag has been a reliable technology partner for infas across multiple large-scale projects, including national transportation surveys such as the Austrian National Mobility Study and fare allocation, e.g., KlimaTicket. The technology is exceptionally reliable at scale and has proven to be a strong foundation for long-term market research.

High-quality measurement of real-world behavior is fundamental for credible research.

Using MotionTag has been critical for accurately and granularly registering travel behavior across transport modes. This approach substantially reduces error and bias compared to self-reported measures, enabling us to observe actual behavioral change rather than stated intentions. Combined with a randomized controlled framework, this strategy has allowed us to estimate the causal effects of several transport policies (such as road pricing and subsidies) and to identify how individuals adjust mobility decisions across all transport modes in response to economic incentives.

motiontag's tech allows us to focus on the new survey elements: time use and expenditures.

Over the years, the traditional way of collecting data through paper-and-pencil surveys has become less productive in terms of data quality and response rates. It is difficult to choose between the two main passive alternatives, GSM and GPS data, because access, costs, and data volumes vary widely. Here, the abilities and quality of motiontag’s proven technology make the choice often easy.

motiontag's data forms the basis for the allocation of Klima-Talers

By integrating MotionTag's mobility detection into the Klima-Taler.com platform, climate-friendly journeys can be automatically measured and evaluated. More than 50 participating municipalities receive reliable data on CO₂ savings and the use of sustainable forms of mobility.  The data shows how mobility behavior is changing for the better in everyday life.

motiontag's tech allowed us to capture individual mobility trajectories linked to key characteristics

In our research on gender mobility in Curitiba’s favelas, motiontag’s smartphone-based tracking enabled us to collect detailed route, modal choice, and travel time data directly within these communities. Unlike traditional Origin–Destination surveys - often aggregated into large spatial zones - or large-scale mobile phone big data, which typically lack socio-demographic detail, this approach allowed us to capture individual mobility trajectories linked to key characteristics such as household composition, gender, income, and race. This combination provided unprecedented insight into gender-based mobility inequalities and supports the development of more inclusive urban mobility policies.
